STAINED GLASS - AN INTRODUCTION

Learn one of the oldest trades in the world and construct you own window panel to display in your home or office. Choose one of three Victorian designs. This beginner class will teach you the copper foil method made popular by Tiffany. Experienced students are welcome and will be assisted with their own chosen project. A $50.00 materials fee, payable to Salt Box Studio, will be collected by the instructor on the the first night of class. (For students who have their own glass, the materials fee will not be applicable unless basic tools, cutter-grozers-iron, are needed: then a $5.00 tool charge per class will apply.)

Do you have lots of photos you just don't know what to do with, like weddings, vacations, holidays and parties? I'll teach you how to turn your photos into displays of art. I will teach you how to improve your techniques. Learn new uses of ordinary household items that you already have. How to create crossover pages, multi-layering, color coordination and simple yet beautiful design techniques to make your scrapbook pages pop. Come join the fun. Bring 4 or 5 pictures with you to the first class.

Learn the basics of crochet and master simple stitch patterns. You will learn how to crochet three simple blocks, in rows, and in the round. There are several projects to choose from, crochet a scarf, small blanket, small felted bag, or dishcloth. Students are responsible to purchase own materials. Basic supplies required: crochet hook H, worsted yarn skein. Cost: $5 - $6.

You took the photo – but the color is off, or are light poles growing out of the subject’s head? Now you need to edit/alter it. There is a whole world of fun waiting in Digital Image Editing. Adobe’s Photoshop Elements – the low cost, consumer version of Adobe’s Photoshop – will enable you to enrich your colors, fix that ho-hum sky or even put one subject into a different image. We will become familiar with Elements’ tools and palettes, and learn about adjusting color, making selections, transforming and resaving images, as well as optimizing images for the Web and e-mail. Come and enjoy the very exciting and fun world of image editing! Prerequisite: Basic computer and file management skills.

Its time to begin your knitting adventure! Learn to knit and you will find a world of creative possibilities. This class also makes a great refresher if you have not knit in a while. In this class, you will learn the basic knitting techniques; cast on, knit, purl, bind off, increase and decrease as you make your first scarf. You will also learn about the different types and sizes of needles, types of yarns and other knitting accessories. Materials provided by students as follows: Knitting needles size 10, worsted weight yarn. Students may choose a different yarn type (read the yarn label for needle information).

SEWING - A BEGINNER'S COURSE

Hand Quilting - The Gentle Art of Hand Quilting for Beginners

Come learn to do patchwork quilting the way our grandmothers did – all by hand. Machine work has its place, but not when you want to relax and watch TV or visit with friends and family. Handwork is highly portable making it perfect for travel, sitting in a waiting room or watching a soccer game. In these eleven weeks, we will start at the very beginning to learn to cut, piece, and quilt a 28” square wall hanging in your choice of fabrics. Learn to make your own templates, too. We will even do some appliqué. Supply list will include suggestions for selecting fabrics. If you have enjoyed this class in the past, join us again. Returning beginners will have 4 new squares to learn. So leave that sewing machine at home and come join us as we rediscover the joys of the gentler paced and more social art of hand quilting. This class is an introduction to Beading. Learn the art of stringing pearls and beads on flexible wire, nylon and silk thread. You will learn numerous stringing techniques: knotting between each pearl; bracelets with clasps; necklaces, including multi-strand and endless necklaces. This class will teach you the basic techniques of jewelry making so that your work has that professional look. No previous experience necessary. Materials Fee: $25. Digital? Film? Digital? Film? Digital? Film? Whichever you choose, the fundamentals are still the same. You need to have a working knowledge of what makes a camera work. You need to understand the relationship between aperture openings and shutter speed. You need to be able to visualize what the finished product will look like. It doesn’t matter which format you use, digital or film. Each format has its good points and bad points. Learn the elements of great photography at a pace that is easy to understand, easy to use and, most importantly, easy to enjoy. Expand your vision and your creativity through photography.

Great images are not created by magic and luck – YOU, the photographer, actually have great control over your final piece. This class will be a combination of your creativity, and learning some new technical skills which will boost your digital photographs. Become aware of them both and watch your images improve dramatically! We will meet the first class and talk about creativity and your goals as an “image maker”, and then we will cover a few basic “rules of composition.” Then learn about digital editing techniques with Photoshop Elements – such as enhancing colors, fixing skies, and tips and tricks to increase the “pop” of your images. Come and learn how to tell the story you want. Prerequisite: Basic computer and file management skills and a basic skills level in Photoshop Elements. Students must provide their own camera and be able to download their own images to bring to class.

Learn the basics of face painting. This year when they are looking for volunteers for different charities you will want to help out and will wow them with your great face painting techniques, or if you just always wanted to know how to create those fantastic faces for next Halloween for your children, this course is for you. This course will teach you step by step on how to create beautiful butterflies, face designs, and animals. Please do not wear make-up and bring a face cloth to take off the make-up. $5.00 materials fee payable to the instructor at the class.

SEWING - AN INTERMEDIATE COURSE

Learn some really cool things that you never thought your machine could do to spice up the things you make. This class will show you techniques that you can apply to all your sewing. What better way to learn them by taking basic items and being happy with the outcome. The projects that will be made in this class will be a pillow, window valance and a retro apron. Bring about a yard of fabric that you would like to turn into a pillow, a pillow form (14"), sewing thread to match, some buttons that might look good, a zipper, and your sewing machine to the first class. Supplies cost $0.00 - $50.00.

It is time to take the next step in your knitting journey! Extend your knitting skills by learning to read knitting patterns, and understand stitch abbreviations. This class will also serve as a refresher course from Knitting for Beginners which will cover in depth the purl stitch, slip stitch, increase, decrease stitches, and bind-off. Students will have a choice of projects from Hats, Patterned Scarf, and Felted Projects. Basic Knitting skills required.
